MailScanner Summary

Your email server is protected by MailScanner. MailScanner is a sophisticated utility that scans all incoming email arriving on our systems. MailScanner stops 'bad content' such as spam, viruses and malicious attachments from reaching your email inbox. This protects you by eliminating unwanted and dangerous emails.

Statistically speaking...

We reject 89.3% of all emails! 87.9% of incoming emails are immediately rejected by our mail server because the sender is listed in an realtime block list (RBL), the email doesn't conform to basic standards (detected by ACL checking), the sender has been forged (detected by SPF checking), or the sender is blacklisted for a recent attack against our network. The remaining emails are passed to MailScanner which quarantines a further 1.4% of all emails for spam characteristics, viruses or malicious content. These statistics obviously vary day by day on every mail server but on average 87.9% of all emails are rejected immediately, 1.4% are quarantined, and the remaining 10.7% are genuine emails that are delivered to your inbox.

False positives - Genuine emails mistaken for spam

Sometimes genuine emails will get quarantined by MailScanner if they have spam characteristics. The MailScanner quarantine is monitored by your server administrator. Only the server administrator can manually review emails and release them from quarantine. If an email is released, MailScanner will learn from its mistake. It will not stop similar emails in future for the same reason.
